  • Koala

Let’s start from destroying a popular theory. The koala IS NOT a bear. This sounds great but there is no relationship whatsoever between koalas and bears. A koala is a marsupial, quite a cute one to be honest. But, no doubt, a koala is Australia’s real icon. If a competition for the most popular Australian animal isn’t won by the kangaroo, the koala would most probably come first.

Koalas feed on eucalyptus leaves, which are toxic, fibrous and low-nutrition. This is why koalas can sleep up to 20 hours a day. It seems that digesting eucalyptus isn’t a piece of cake. As you can see, another untrue myth is that they sleep a lot because they become intoxicated.

Koalas have two thumbs on their front paws, making it easier to grab food and hold onto the branches firmly. You should know that the koala only climbs down from one tree to move on to another.
